Coffee & Conversation | Eric & Charleigh

ericallenfitz:

“If I were a good guy, I would have stayed away instead of coming back. Audrey doesn’t need me much now. She has Finn, Johnny, Ryan, Max, and everyone else to look after her. I’m just holding her back. The only reason she’s staying with me is because of Sofia, even if she doesn’t want to admit it.” Eric held back so much with Audrey, now he felt bad for bring it up with Charleigh. “I’m sorry, you don’t need to know about my crap.” Eric looked at her as she talked about Johnny and Audrey. “I think we’re both in deep waters with them right now, don’t you think? I mean Audrey is going to hate me if she finds out I’m spending time with you, and Johnny just needs to stick with you. You’re a great girl, and he’s ruining his chances with you.” Eric reached over the table, grabbing her hands into his, trying to comfort her. “You shouldn’t let one bad experience with love ruin love altogether. Trust me, I should know.” Eric took a drink of his coffee, relaxing himself some more.

“Stop it Fitz, don’t be so hard on yourself.” She circled her finger around the lid of the coffee cup as he spoke. She was glad that he could confined in her, and vise versa. Knowing someone who seemed so well put together was having the same problems as she was made her feel somewhat better, maybe she wasn’t a lost cause. “No, it’s alright.” She gave him a simple smile. “Everyone needs someone to console in every once in a while.” She reassured him with a nod and glanced out the window with a laugh. “Hate you? No she will hate me. I don’t see what the big deal is, you are my teacher. Why is it alright for her to hang around Johnny all the time but you can’t go out without her?” The words came out of her mouth too fast, and she regretted them as soon as she finished speaking. “Sorry, it’s none of my business.” She took a sip of her drink. Hearing his words and seeing his hand on hers made her feel a bit better, she looked up and nodded. “I guess you are right, its just hard to believe in it when you are brought up around hate.” She let out a sigh. “Why do you think Audrey is only with you for Sofia?” She tilted her head to the side, she couldn’t help but wonder. “She really loves you, you know that right?”

Coffee & Conversation | Eric & Charleigh

“That’s for sure. I’ll be on my toes for the rest of my life with those two.” Eric laughed a little. Imagining what he told Audrey about him beating up any boys who would try to date Sofia. “I’ve even told Audrey, Sofia can’t date. I don’t want her getting hurt.” Eric looked up at her as she spoke. The same thing he used to say to someone when he was in a messed up situation. Like when he would go on drinking binges for days and a coworker would see his messy appearance on Monday morning. “If I can finish college, you can too. Watch. And when you do, you owe me another thank you.” He leaned on the table drawing little shapes into the hard surface top with his fingers. “So, this Johnny guy, why is he so interested in Audrey when he has you?” That question bothered Eric to no extent, and getting it out in the open was the only way he could get away from it. At lest to him it was.

“Don’t worry, you will be the first on my graduation speech.” She joked with a smile. “You have a long time till Sofia starts dating, don’t worry about that now! Besides, maybe she will find a nice guy like yourself.” She smiled and looked down at her hands when he asked about Johnny. “You don’t know much about him do you?” She looked back up at him, biting down on her lower lip. Whenever she talked about Johnny and Audrey she got a bit upset, but she figured the could relate to her about it. “Well, Johnny is Audrey’s ex-boyfriend, she knew him her whole life. When I moved here they were still dating, seriously. I’m not sure why they broke up though, but I do know that Johnny is still in love with her, whether he wants to admit it or not.” The words hurt her as she spoke, but she knew it was true. “To this day he will still always put Audrey before me, it’s just something I have learned to deal with I guess.” She shrugged. “I guess I deal with it because I really like him, he is a good kid don’t get me wrong. Way better then I deserve, but I guess I just put up with it because I have never had someone like him in my life, you know?” She knew most people would leave him in her situation, but Charleigh never experienced love, not with parents even so to be in a relationship was a big deal. “I never believed in love till I met Johnny, then I did… but now I don’t think I do anymore.”

Coffee & Conversation | Eric & Charleigh

Eric ran a hand through his hair, trying to relax himself. Even after leaving Sofia with someone he knew would take care of her, he still felt uneasy about it. His overprotective father side coming out. “Sofia is pretty good. She’s getting more like Audrey everyday. You know, the attitude, short tempter, yelling, and hardheadedness. She got it all.” Eric smiled at the thought. He loved talking about Sofia, it made him feel good. “I’m, hanging in.” Eric didn’t exactly know what else to say. He and Audrey have been fighting a lot, and when they weren’t fighting they were in the bedroom. “How about you? Miss I-can’t-graduate-this-year.” He smiled over at her, happy that he was a small part of the reason she was graduating.

Hearing him describe Sofia made her laugh, she could picture in her head everything he was saying. “You are going to have quite a handful when she grows up.” She teased, thinking of what would happen if Sofia truly grew up to be like Audrey, always turning heads. She nodded now at his reply, she sensed something a bit off, but she let it go. “I’m doing alright.” The lie came out of her mouth so naturally, she had been using that line since she was about seven, but in reality she was never truly alright. “Hey” She let out a giggle. “I really wasn’t going to graduate! If it wasn’t for you I would be at the school tomorrow picking out my classes for next year.” She smiled, she was actually pretty proud of herself for making it, she didn’t believe in herself so it was no wonder that no one else did. “Now alls I have to do is tackle college, but that is as impossible as walking on water.” She shrugged with a smile and took a sip of her drink.

Coffee & Conversation | Eric & Charleigh

Eric stayed home all day, since Audrey was sick and he had to look after Sofia. Luckily, he was able into getting Kyle to watch her while he went out for a bit to relax. He didn’t like Johnny for trying to take Audrey to prom, and now that he knew he was messing with Charleigh, that made him dislike him even more. Yeah, it was Eric’s place to care about that, but still it messed with him and his mind. He drove to the coffee shop not far from his house. He planned on walking, but driving seemed better at the time. Eric pulled up the the curb and walked into the shop. He stood there, trying to find something to relax him. Usually he’d go for a plain coffee and newspaper, but he thought now would be a good time to try something different. “Hey, Charleigh.” Eric smiled at her as she made her way towards him. “I was going to order you something, but I’m guessing you and Audrey have different tastes in these things.” Eric moved out of the way, letting her stand in front of the cashier.

She smiled with a nod. “Thank you for the consideration though.” Stepping infront of the cashier she took a quick look at the menu and ordered her drink, placing the money down. Once they both had their drinks she walked over to a table with him and sat down. It felt nice to be out of the house. She knew Audrey would overreact big time when she finds out that Charleigh had met Eric for coffee but she didn’t care. It really wasn’t anything to worry about, except Johnny’s cousin Claire would turn it into something much bigger. The past few days she had been receiving nasty texts from Claire, but she didn’t tell anyone, there was no one to tell. Letting out a sigh as she sipped her drink she looked over at Eric, trying to clear her mind. Her eighteenth birthday was in a few days and she knew she would be spending it alone so she might as well enjoy her time out now. “So hows it going? Hows Sofia?”

Coffee & Conversation | Eric & Charleigh

It had been quite a while since Charleigh had left her room, other then to go to school. It seemed like her world was crashing down and the only people that mattered to her were gone. She wasn’t so sure why she was surprise though, her whole life she knew that once she let people in her life, they would leave her. Growing up an orphan her whole life taught her that. Up until moving to Lima she had done everything on her own, she had kept her guard up. Now she just proved her theory right.  Luckily she still had one person that still believed in her, and that was Fitz. She saw him as more then just a great teacher, but a friend. Not to mention Charleigh had been his daughters godchild. Getting dressed she took a glance in her mirror, since her withdrawal accident that she was sure everyone knew about now she hadn’t looked the same. She had lost a significant amount of weight and pigment, but she was finally starting to gain it back. She had just hoped Mr. Fitz didn’t know about her problem though she wouldn’t be surprised if he did. Walking down the dark street to the coffee shop felt nice, the air was a bit crisp. She used the time to clear her mind, there was no denying she had been jealous of Audrey lately, she was after all with Johnny all the time. They lived together, so she had every right to be jealous, right? She couldn’t help but wonder if Fitz felt the same. Walking into the coffee shop she saw her teacher and waved. “Hey Fitz.”
